Russian-speaking Jews as the Subethnic Group

The ethnographic term “sub-ethnos” (sub-ethnic group) describes both new and historical groups of the Jewish people that stand out for their sustainable culture and language peculiarity. The author believes that Russian-speaking Jews are adequately fit this definition. This relatively new group poses their own identity and specific culture complex without losing ethnic identification with the Jewish people. Now Israel, rather than Russia serves as the major center of this subethnic group, which includes communities that live both in Israel and the Diaspora. Besides national and religious ideology there are Russian Jewish social networks and media that serve as a unifying factor of this group.
